Peru: Requirements set for kiwi plant imports

The National Service of Agricultural Health (SENASA) established the mandatory phytosanitary requirements for the import of Actinidia chinensis and Actinidia deliciosa plants from the U.S.

According to Directorial Resolution No. 0025-2014-Minagri-SENASA-DSV, published in the official bulletin El Peruano, given the growing interest in importing kiwi plants, the Division of Risk Analysis and Phytosanitary Monitoring started a study in order to determine the requirements for their import.

Exporters will require a Phytosanitary Import Permit issued by SENASA, and obtained through the importer or interested party before the shipment is made from the country of origin.

The shipment will also have to include an official phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, which must confirm that the plant material shipped has been officially inspected by the National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) of the country of origin.

Furthermore, shipments will be made in new packaging, free of soil or any other foreign material besides the approved product.

Lastly, the importer will have to keep a registration of importers, production sites and technicians responsible for the material subject to post-entry quarantine regulations.
