Dr K.L. Heong who started collaborating with Zhejiang scientists when he joined IRRI in 1988, was honored by the provincial government with the Westland Friendship Award. In his 25 years in IRRI working with China he has conducted numerous workshops and training courses in IPM, graduated several PhDs and coauthored papers and books with Chinese scientists. In 2015 he joined Zhejiang University as a visiting scientist in the “Quishi Chair Profesor” position, where he continues to advice graduate students and conduct advance courses in entomology and IPM.
KL was a Principal Scientist at IRRI and a board member of IAPPS representing the SE Asia Region. IAPPS is proud to have had the services of KL as a representative of SE Asia.
