The brown marmorated stink bug has recently established itself in Sacramento County.
While it is unclear whether the insect poses a serious threat to Lodi and California viticulture, the Lodi Winegrape Commission is beginning to research the pest’s spread and life cycle to prepare for implementation of integrated pest management control practices.
The commission will hold a meeting from 9 to 11 a.m. May 29 at Burgundy Hall on the Lodi Grape Festival Grounds, 413 E. Lockeford St.
Chuck Ingels, University of California Cooperative Extension farm adviser for Sacramento County, and Charlie Pickett of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, will speak on a range of topics, including bug identification, potential threat to winegrapes, monitoring, life cycle and control. One and a half hours of CDFA continuing education credit will be offered.
