The Tea Board of India on Wednesday launched the ‘Plant Protection Code’ (PPC) for adopting best practices in production with the objective of minimising pesticide use, ensuring sustainability and improving quality.

The PPC was developed by a technical committee comprising members from the Indian tea industry, Tea Research Institute of UPASI, Tea Research Association, international certification bodies, and the Trustea Advisory Committee, the Tea Board said in a statement.

Tea Board chairman Siddharth said that the board was of the view that effective adoption for the PPC would enable the industry to safeguard the plantation environment, ensure welfare of workers and small farmers and long-term security of supply.
